A Prayer for Today: January 21, 2009

Abba Father,

I am grateful that You are our God – personal and real to each of us. I praise You for Who You are. Remind us to stop and praise You daily. In the midst of great needs and petitions, our hearts and minds need to retain praises to our Father on the tips of our tongues.

I pray Your mighty Hand of protection and influence over our nation and its leaders. Uphold our soldiers, far from home, on a mission to preserve our freedoms and to keep life in America safe and free from terrorist attacks. I pray that if any leader of a city, state, or a national leader strays from the teachings of the Almighty, that You will impress upon his or her heart the first Psalm:

1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Your Word promises us that when we seek You, we will find You. Today, we come seeking You and Your power to heal, sustain, forgive, strengthen, and restore families. As the Great Physician, I thank You for seeing the many needs that exist in my family and friends. They are numerous and daunting to us, but You are the God of the impossible and we believe that each situation will be touched by Your hand.

You are amazing and awesome. We rejoice at the goodness of our Lord and Savior. Where would we be without you, Abba Father? Thank You for that beloved name, Abba. I treasure the knowledge that You are as near and loving as many of our earthly fathers have been to us. And for those who did not have the blessing of a loving fatherly relationship, they can rejoice, knowing that You are their Daddy.

In Jesus’ Most Precious Name I pray, Amen.
