Consider Becoming a Donor (Organ, Marrow, or Stem Cells)

Our family was blessed last September 30th when our 28 year old son-in-law received a kidney transplant. He had been on dialysis for some time and we prayed for a perfectly matched kidney for him. That precious gift came to him last year. He has done so wonderfully and had no signs of rejection.

This week he received an emotional, heartfelt letter from his donor's mother. His kidney came from a 17 year old girl who was killed in an automobile wreck. What a priceless, selfless gift this family gave to our family.

Our eyes have been opened wide to the urgency families across America are feeling as they await an organ or donation of marrow or stem cells to save the lives of their loved ones. Not only did our son-in-law need a kidney to save his young life, but a stem cell or cord blood donation could possibly save my own life in the future.

I will write more details and provide links in future posts about transplants. If you are interested in becoming a donor, a good place to begin for donation information is the National Donor Marrow Registry http://www.marrow.org/ .
