A Prayer for Today: October 8, 2009

Heavenly Father,

“But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; let those also who love Your Name, be joyful in You” (Psalm 5:11).

We continue to rejoice in You, Father. We know You are the Giver of joy, our Defender, and the One we can trust. For that we rejoice. We are grateful for the prayers and petitions that You hear and answer on our behalf. We praise You for the answers because we know that You will answer in ways that are most beneficial to us. And although we may not always understand or agree that Your ways are better or higher than our ways, we can rest assured that they most certainly are.

When we cry out to You and a prayer is not answered specifically as we felt should have been the best response, forgive us, Lord. Remind us constantly that You know so much better than we do about what we need in our lives. Forgive us for our impatience as we await the answers to our prayers. And forgive us when we simply fail to ask You to meet our needs. Your Word tells us, “We have not, because we ask not.”

Father, I ask that You reign supreme in all aspects of our great country’s government. From the oval office to the county seats of government, allow Godly men and women to oversee the important decisions that dictate life in America. Remove those from office who make decisions contrary to Your Word and Your plan for this great nation. Work in the midst of people who operate and govern completely separated from You and Your mandates. Guard our freedoms in this nation – the freedom to worship as we please; the freedom to bear arms; the freedom to speak as we choose; and the freedom to secure the medical care that we (and our physicians) feel is in our best interests.

Our needs are numerous, but nothing is too difficult for You, Lord. We are waiting. We are trusting. We are looking to You, Father. “(Our) helps comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:2).

In Jesus’ Name I pray. AMEN.
