Marriage is a covenant before God ... not an agreement to be taken lightly or to be dissolved by man.
Today my parents celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary. It is reassuring and encouraging as a child, to witness the long marriage of my parents. In an era of divorce and short-lived marriages, their example paves the way for the rest of us to remain devoted and dedicated to our spouses and to our marriage covenant.
Marriage will always have its ups and downs. My husband always says if someone says that they never fight with their spouse, that they probably are not telling the truth! People disagree. Knowing how to resolve differences, how to treat each other with respect, and how to ask God for His help and guidance in a marriage will make the difference in sustaining a marriage for decades.
I have thought of the example established for our three daughters and their spouses. Their maternal grandparents celebrated their 46th Anniversary today. Their paternal grandparents celebrated their 40th Anniversary before their Paternal Grandfather passed away. And this year, my husband and I will celebrate our 27th Anniversary. A long heritage of lasting marriages has been left for our daughters and grandchildren. I pray they will always think on these examples when trying times cross their paths.
Happy Anniversary, Dad and Mom. Thanks for the legacy you are leaving to all of us.
